Parish History

The parish “Saint John of Suceava” is located in the northeastern part of the North American Continent. Here, many years ago, several Romanian families who wished to pray to God and have a Romanian Orthodox priest for service, emigrated to the United States.

In 1997, with the blessing of the Beloved and Merciful God and with the wish of several Romanian families, in the state of New Hampshire, in the city of Manchester, with the blessing of IPS Nathaniel, Archbishop of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America and Canada, the first Romanian Orthodox mission was established, having at that time as a serving priest Father Dumitru Ionescu.

On October 15, 1997, a number of 5 (five) Romanians: George Sicsai, Elisabeta Sicsai, Gheorghe Tihenea, Gheorghe Nastasescu and Gheorghe Purnichescu, signed the official document after which the American State of New Hampshire recognized the Romanian Orthodox ”Saint John of Suceava” as an Orthodox parish, under the canonical blessing of IPS Nathaniel, Archbishop of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America and Canada.

From then until today Saint John of Suceava is the protector of the Romanian community in New Hampshire, but also in the neighboring states, Maine and Vermont.

During this time, several Romanian Orthodox priests have served as parish priests, which we recall here and which are mentioned in each Holy Liturgy: Fr. Onisie Morar (1996), Fr. Dumitru Ionescu (1997-2000), Fr. Aurel Petrescu (2000-2013), Fr. Narcis Stoica (2013-2014), Fr. Daniel Balan (2014-2018).

With the blessing of God, from August 1st 2018 to the present, Father Marius Ionut Sandu serves at this parish with his family: Elena-Alina presbytera and the sons Stefan-Cristian and Andrei-Cristian.
